Clippers stop Miami Heats

Clippers stop Miami Heats
Kobe, still 40 fever

NEW YORK (United States), January 12, 2012

The second defeat in a row to the Heat, k.o. 95-89 in additional to Los Angeles. Bryant leads the Lakers at home of Jazz with 40 points with the help of Bynum. Dallas goes to Boston, Chicago also Rose, ok without a fourth consecutive Center to NY, first slide inside to Portland

Blake Griffin of the Clippers, celebrating in front of Wade. Reuters the Clippers forced Miami to second consecutive defeat, and will confirm a potentially very dangerous team. Nowitzki gave the victory in Dallas, home of Boston, Bryant it puts other 40 for the Lakers, who thanked a trapping of Bynum to win at home of Jazz. Also necessary additional Spurs to beat Houston, Chicago also ok without Derrick Rose. Fourth consecutive win for New York.

Los Angeles Clippers-Miami Heat 95-89 dts

Two consecutive defeats to the extra Heat (8-3), after that of yesterday in the House of Warriors. Are the Clippers (5-3) to Chris Paul and company to stop the boys coach Spoelstra, who reach the extra with two free throws to LeBron James (86-86 at the end of the fourth period) but then mark only 3 points in the extension of the match. The triple Chalmers at 1 ' 25, indeed (90-89), remains the only basket made from Heat, suffering from a rare evening retort by James shooting this season. The Clippers, good at returning from -11 (28-39 signed Bosh to 4 ' 52 of range), had put forward nose with a 3/3 for free to Billups in 27 seconds from the end (after a foul by James avoidable, 86-84), then is DeAndre Jordan to sign the decisive points (94-89 in 5 seconds) between Spoelstra's protests, which closes the inning a technical race.
L.A. Clippers: Paul 27 (11/19, 2, 0/5/5 tl), Griffin and Butler 20, Billups 12. Rebounds: Griffin 12. Assists: Paul 11.
Miami: James 23 (7/0/1, 18, 9/17 tl), Chalmers 18, Wade, Bosh 16 17. Rebounds: James 13. Assists: James 7.

Boston Celtics-Dallas Mavericks 85-90

The reigning Nba champions force Boston (4-5) for the second consecutive defeat, while Dallas is the fifth success in the last six outputs (6-5). Dirk Nowitzki, obviously, his puts us to force the result: after the triple of Paul Pierce, who equalised at 85 with 25 seconds to play, the German beat dribble Garnett (that could not be more "physical" in fact) and marks in support with the Bass foul (88-85 to 5 seconds from the end). Soon after arriving the ball lost by Rondo and Terry's layup to close a match in which guests have also had 13 points in the third quarter (66-53 after a triple by Terry to 1 ' 59 since the last pause) despite the absence of Jason Kidd and the ejection of coach Carlisle in starting the third quarter. The debut of Pietrus (5 points with 2/5 shooting, 2 recoveries and 1 rebounds in 18 minutes) does not lead well to hosts.
Boston: Rondo 24 (8/15, 1, 0/8/12 tl), Garnett 16, Dooling 9. Rebounds: Garnett 10. Assists: 7 Rondo.
Dallas: Terry 18 (4/8, 8, 3/1/1 tl), Dirk Nowitzki, Marion, 16 15 12 West. Rebounds: Haywood 11. Assists: Nowitzki 4.

Kobe Bryant still over 40 points: the second race in a row. Ap Utah Jazz-Los Angeles Lakers 87-90

Kobe Bryant exaggerates. With a pulse in its conditions (just imagine the effort that has to do to pull even once) you can score at least 40 points for two nights in a row. Instead he tells us that Yes, you can. Only that played decisive isn't his: Kobe and the Lakers (8-4) must thank Andrew Bynum and stopped on Al Jefferson (which closes with 5/17 at the shooting) to 1.9 seconds from the end of the additional, when the center of Jazz (6-4) looked destined to score easily from below to continue the winning streak of his team (which was five games). Instead came the manona of Bynum to say no, then the free throws to Bryant to close the speech. A race that the Lakers could win in regulation, but the shot by Bryant to win went not to sign (after a tap-in of Millsap to 28 seconds remaining to equalize at an altitude of 78). Not bad for him, only 5 minutes and the other gialloviola were able to celebrate the first victory of the season.
Utah: Millsap 29 (14/24, 1/2 tl), Howard, Jefferson 11 18. Rebounds: Jefferson 11. Assists: Harris and Hayward 5.
L.A. Lakers: Bryant 40 (13/28, 3, 1/11/11 tl), Gasol, Bynum 12 14, Barnes 11. Rebounds: Gasol 11. Assists: Fisher 7.

Portland Trail Blazers-Orlando Magic 104-107

First consecutive home defeat for the Blazers (7-3), who never fail to go ahead against the Magic (7-3): guests build their victory on a shot from outside (with a frightening 16/27) and also manage to touch the 23 points (58-81 to 5 ' 56 from the end of the third quarter, with Howard), but not to quit the game.

Dear Blackhawks diehards

After not playing each other for the first 38 games of the season, the NHL most played rivalry resumes tonight after playing just last week. The good news is that the Blackhawks beat the hated Red Wings to end 2011 on a high note. The bad news is the Hawks have not won a game since, and have not won a game in 2012! Even worse news is that if the Blackhawks don’t snap out of their current losing ways tonight the Red Wings will be passing the Blackhawks up for second place in the Central Division, with the St. Louis Blues passing them for first place last night.

The rivalry has turned in favor of the Blackhawks recently, they were 4-2 last year and 1-0 this year against the Red Wings and hold an all-time record of 163-141-56 record in Chicago versus Detroit.

With the Hawks recent defensive struggles, the offense has strangely struggled at home getting shut out two out of the last three times they have taken the United Center ice. This is too many periods to be played without Chelsea Dagger getting blared throughout the Madhouse on Madison. The offense may get a break tonight without Jimmy Howard in net but Ty Conklin getting the nod. Conklin is 1-4 with a 3.23 GAA . The Hawks should have plenty of opportunities to put the puck in the net tonight! Corey Crawford starts tonight for the Hawks. He is 15-8-2 with a 2.77 GAA

There was some good news on the injury front today with Marcus Kruger practicing today, but he is still on IR. Daniel Carcillo’s injury still has not been diagnosed while he serves his 3rd game of his seven game suspension, how many opinions will it take?? Hmmm 4 more games??

The best rivalry gets national well if you call NBCN (formerly known as Versus) national TV tonight. Hopefully the coverage and the rivalry helps wake up our Blackhawks from there recent winter slumber!!! LETS GO HAWKS!!!

Baseball Cards

A new Nine Innings column is on deck, likely to be posted late Sunday night. In the meantime, here's a pretty decent three-man rotation for your consideration.

He may have lost his slider, but all these years later, damned if The Unit still doesn't have his boyish good looks.

A heartwarming human interest story who became a hell of a pitcher by any measure, the last Yankee I sincerely rooted for, and as Tim Brown's terrific feature in the L.A. Times this morning reminds us, a decent and honest man. If you don't like Jim Abbott, you're hopeless.

Smoltz and the Braves missed the playoffs the season this card came out. They missed them the next year, too. And they haven't missed them since. Astounding. You might think I've taken one too many tomahawk chops to the head, but even considering their recent nosedive, I'm not writing off Smoltz or Atlanta just yet.

Roger Waters

Roger Waters was the main lyricist for the classic British rock band Pink Floyd. He, along with Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright, formed the band in 1965 and released their first album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in 1967.

In 1968, Syd Barrett was replaced by guitarist/singer David Gilmour. He and Gilmour were the main creative forces behind the albums "Meddle," "Dark Side of the Moon," and "Wish You Were Here"; Waters eventually became the primary songwriter, being the driving force behind "Animals", and "The Wall" as well as the sole songwriter of "The Final Cut".

In 1985, Waters left the band due to creative differences. He and the remaining band members engaged in a legal battle over the band's future use of Pink Floyd's material and name. In 1987, a settlement was reached out of court. Waters didn't perform again with Pink Floyd for 18 years.

Over the course of his solo career Waters has released three studio albums: 1984's “The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking,” 1987's “Radio K.A.O.S.” and 1992's “Amused to Death. In 1990, Waters staged “The Wall- Live in Berlin,” one of the all-time largest rock concerts, with approximately 200,00 fans.

Since 1999 Waters, as a soloist, has toured extensively. On his world tours from 2006 to 2008 he performed the entire “The Dark Side of the Moon” album. In 2005, Waters reunited with David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and performed at Live 8's charity concert. In 2010, Waters embarked on his worldwide tour “The Wall Live,” which features “The Wall” performed in its entirety.

Great Moments in Sacramento Kings History

Kings Have Prominent Role In NBA History-The Sacramento Kings trace their roots all the way back to the birth of the NBA. In 1949 the franchise was one of 17 charter members of the new league that was created by the merger of the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League. Originally located in Rochester and known as the Royals, the club has also been known as the Cincinnati Royals, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, and the Kansas City Kings. The franchise moved to Sacramento in 1985. It has been a long road for the Kings.

The team won a championship in 1951, but since then the franchise has mostly known frustration. Since the 1955-56 season the club has been a sporadic visitor to the playoffs. From 1968 to 1978 the Kings made only one postseason appearance. In 1995-96, the Kings reached the playoffs after a nine-year absence. But the franchise has had its share of bright lights, too. The club's all-time roster boasts NBA greats Jack Twyman, Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, Happy Hairston, and Nate "Tiny" Archibald. And Bob Cousy, Cotton Fitzsimmons, and Bill Russell have all put in time as head coach. The franchise's glory years are now a distant memory.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s the Rochester Royals ranked as one of the powerhouses of professional basketball. The franchise joined the National Basketball League in 1945 and promptly claimed the NBL crown. The Royals' roster included future coaching legend Red Holzman, pro quarterback Otto Graham, major league catcher Del Rice, and Chuck Connors, who would go on to greater fame as The Rifleman. The next season Rochester broke the NBL's color barrier by signing Dolly King.

2001-2002: Championship Run The Sacramento Kings enjoyed its best season in franchise history, finishing the regular season with the best record in the NBA at 61-21, assuring the Kings the home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Sacramento s 61 wins eclipsed the previous franchise high of 55 victories, set by the 1963-64 Cincinnati Royals and 2000-01 Sacramento Kings. The last time the Sacramento Kings finished the regular season with the best record in the league was when the Rochester Royals recorded a 41-25 mark in 1951-52. Sacramento is making its fourth straight playoff appearance.

The Sacramento Kings soared to new heights during the 2001-02 campaign, winning Sacramento s first-ever Pacific Division title (fifth title in franchise history), despite injuries to All-Stars Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic, who missed 28 and 11 games, respectively. Sacramento set new franchise records for most wins in a season (61), most home wins in a season (36), and most road victories in a season (25). Their home mark of 36-5 marked the best in the NBA. Additionally, the Sacramento Kings rattled off a franchise-best nine straight road wins. Statistically, Sacramento finished in the league s top five in several categories, including defensive rebounding (1st), scoring (2nd), rebounding (2nd), steals (3rd), field goal percentage (2nd), and assists (4th). The Kings were 44- 7 when scoring 100 points or more. The only other team to reach 100 points more times than Sacramento this year was Dallas (47-10 in such outings).

The Sacramento Kings were well represented in Philadelphia for the 2002 NBA All-Star Weekend on February 10th. Webber made his second consecutive All-Star start and fifth All-Star appearance, recording eight points, three rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 20 minutes. Stojakovic, making his first appearance, tallied 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist in 18 minutes. He also was the winner of the 1 800 CALL ATT Shootout in overtime. Hedo Turkoglu participated in three of the weekend s events. In addition to playing for the sophomore team in the got milk Rookie Challenge, he finished second to Philadelphia s Eric Snow in the Fleer Shootaround. Turkoglu capped off his All- Star Weekend experience by sinking the game-winning three-pointer in sudden-death overtime to give Sacramento the inaugural 3-on-3 989 Sports Hoop-It-Up title.

Lastly, rookie forward Gerald Wallace finished second in the NBA.com Slam Dunk contest presented by RealOne. Individually, the Sacramento Kings won several honors during the 2001-02 season. Adelman was named IBM Coach of the Month for January. Stojakovic was named 2001 Euroscar, La Gazzetta dello Sport s annual award to the top European basketball player, while Webber was named Western Conference Player of the Week (12/31-1/6) and Western Conference Player of the Month for January. Webber and Stojakovic teamed to form one of the most potent tandems in the NBA.

The Kings were 43-8 when Stojakovic scored 20 or more points and 32-9 when Webber tallied 20 or more. Stojakovic scored 20 or more points in 30 of his last 43 games, including 11 of the last 17. He led the team in scoring in 32 games, rebounding in four, and assists in four. Webber reached the 20-point plateau in 38 of his last 47 games and recorded 31 double-doubles this season. He narrowly missed a triple-double by one assist three times during the 2001-02 campaign. Webber led the team in scoring on 35 occasions, rebounding 33 times, and assists in 17 games. Sacramento concluded the 2001-02 season with Webber (Most Valuable Player candidate), Turkoglu (Most Improved candidate), Doug Christie (All-Defensive Team candidate), Bobby Jackson (Sixth Man of the Year candidate) and Adelman (Coach of the Year candidate) in the running for NBA awards.
